September has been National Baby Safety Month, which is something near + dear to my heart, for obvious reasons. Before Everett was born, I spent hours upon hours scouring the internet for answers to hundreds of questions and just looking for general guidance. I found there’s a lot of conflicting and outdated information floating around out there, which can be extremely frustrating. We even heard conflicting information IN THE HOSPITAL from doctors and nurses.
So I thought I’d take a few minutes today to pass along some of my favorite resources… the tried + true ones that we referenced quite a bit as new parents. I want to emphasize that I am not an expert by any means, simply sharing helpful information with friends.
One of my favorite all-around resources is Safe Kids Worldwide. There is a TON of information and safety tips broken down by age.
Other favorite safety resources at a glance:

I know this can be a hot-button issue, but the fact remains that experts estimate 95% of car seats are used incorrectly. We just went to a free car seat check event with local police officers, and they gave us wrong information by suggesting an unsafe change. Fortunately, I had thoroughly researched our car seat and I had the manual available to show the officer why his suggestion was incorrect, but it’s scary to think how many people leave an event like that with wrong information, even if it is well-intentioned.
Please take a few minutes to read your car seat manual. The Car Seat Lady and Car Seats for the Littles are both great resources. Car Seats for the Littles also has a Facebook group that you can send questions and photos for a fit check by one of their certified technicians. Safe Kids Worldwide has provided some additional safety tips:
Finally, on a lighter note…I have TWO amazing giveaways to celebrate the completion of another successful National Baby Safety Month and to keep our little ones safe all year around!
1. baby deedee sleep nest
One lucky winner will win (1) baby deedee sleep nest or sleep kicker, which is the safest way to keep baby warm all winter long instead of blankets. If you aren’t already aware of my love for baby deedee, read my review here.
2. Child Safe Childproofing Home Safety Assessment*
One lucky winner will receive a complimentary Home Safety Assessment, which is a detailed walk-through of your home to address any childproofing needs, as well as provide information and suggestions to create the safest environment possible for your children. The home assessment is 2.5-3 hours long and is valued at $150.
*The Child Safe giveaway is available to Colorado residents only because it’s a local company.
Child Safe Childproofing is a leading locally-owned organization in childproofing. We hired them to do a Home Safety Assessment of our home when Everett started crawling and then had them install custom gates at the top + bottom of our stairs, as well as custom window well covers outside. They are top notch. Head over to their website for more information and special offers.
And please know that I only pass along products and services that I truly love. Everett is 19 months old now and still wears a baby deedee sleep nest every single night to bed, so clearly we believe in them and think you will too. 🙂
Enter both giveaways below to win! Good luck!
xo,
Rachael

October 10, 2016Good timing… my baby is growing so fast, she has grown out of the swaddle have been using. I need something for her to sleep in with her arms free but legs covered. The baby deedee sleep nest looks like what I need, love it in sweet pink. I love keeping tabs on you and your family on you blog rach!

October 10, 2016Kristine!!! It’s so wonderful to hear from you! Thank you for the sweet words! 🙂
It’s incredible how fast they grow, right?! Brynlee is ADORABLE! The nice thing about the sleep nest compared to others sleep sacks that we’ve tried is THEY LAST…Everett is still wearing the same medium size we’ve had since December. He’s just about ready for the large and/or the sleep kicker, but I’ve been so happy it’s held up 11 months already!

October 3, 2016This is a great post! My friend just gave birth recently and we were talking about how delicate babies are, and how we wouldn’t want to make mistakes with them! I can imagine that all the pieces of information can be confusing sometimes (“do this, don’t do this,” etc.)!
